Bhopal, Mar 23: Ending the speculations, the consensus is reached on the name of former Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janta Party Leader from Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the post of Chief Minister after the defeat of Kamal Nath-led Congress government in the state.

Shivraj Singh, popularly known as ‘Mamaji’ is likely to take the oath of the office and secrecy on March 25, the auspicious occasion of ‘Varsh Pratipada’ to mark a new era of BJP governance in this central Indian state.

According to party sources, the consensus is reached on Shivraj’s name and he will assume the responsibility for the fourth time. It may be remembered that the state had slipped out of BJP’s hands due to the minor difference between the Congress and the BJP. The Kamla Nath Government has been under the pressure to keep its majority intact all the time since the formation of the government.

BJP sources said that the meeting of the party legislators will be held on 24th evening to elect Shivraj Singh as leader of the legislature party following which he will meet the Governor and stake the claim for forming the government in the state.

Sources said that the party high command was ready to convene the meeting of its legislators on Monday but due to coronavirus threat, #JanataCurfew, and lockdown, the meeting was postponed to March 24. The party has not made any formal announcement of his name as chief minister but according to highly placed sources, the high command has almost made its mind in favor of Shivraj Singh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to Shivraj Singh on phone on Sunday twice and asked him to be in touch with the administration. The BJP is forming the government in the state because of the rebellion of Jyotiraditya Scindia and his 22 MLAs who resigned from the Assembly and later joined the BJP. Shivraj could prove better to maintain a balance and coordination with ‘Maharaj’ and his group, the party high command felt.

The oath-taking ceremony will be a low-key affair with Shiraj taking the oath in the presence of selected few leaders and avoiding any kind of pomp and show. Kamal Nath had resigned on March 18 as his government was reduced to a minority and the Supreme Court had asked him to face the floor test to prove his majority. Instead of facing the floor test, Kamal Nath chose to resign and thus paved the way for Shivraj’s come back.
