Crisis gets all together! Sports Fraternity to donate in fight against Coronavirus pandemic

With India being under a complete lockdown in wake of widening coronavirus outbreak, it has been the top-most concern for many of us especially for the underprivileged people who have almost seen a reduction in their source of income and the medical facilities being so expensive, the sports fraternity has taken initiative for these causes and has decided to donate a particular amount of money to the relief fund.

The top-ranked Indian shuttler PV Sindhu today donated a sum of Rs 5 lakh each to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Minister Relief Funds to combat the spread of coronavirus. She tweeted, "I hereby donate an amount of Rs 5,00,000/- each (Rs five lakhs) towards the “Chief Ministers Relief Fund” for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to fight against COVID-19,” she tweeted." Telangana has reported 41 cases including a person recovering from the virus whereas Andhra Pradesh has reported 10 cases with one person getting recovered.


Earlier, today the BCCI president and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly along with the Lal Baba Rice have decided to provide rice for the needy people. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in its statement said, "It is heartening to note that Mr. Sourav Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice has come forward to provide free rice worth Rs 50 lacs to the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security."

The CAB will be contributing Rs. 25 Lakh in combating the disease. "Cricket stands for Unity. It also stands for humanity. Therefore, on behalf of CAB, we have decided to donate Rs 25 lakhs for now to the State Emergency Relief Fund to be used in combating this disease. As a responsible institution, it is our duty to stand by the administration and help them eradicate this disease," said CAB President Avishek Dalmiya. The virus in West Bengal has infected 10 people including one death.


On Monday, the Asian Games gold medallist Bajrang Punia had pledged to give out his six months' salary towards Haryana's Coronavirus Relief Fund where the state has confirmed 31 positive cases with 11 people being recovered.


The former Indian opening batsman and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir has also offered to release Rs 50 lakh from his Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for the equipment to treat coronavirus patients in Delhi government hospitals. Delhi, where saw the second death due to the virus, has as of now reported 36 cases with six people recovered.

 
The Tennis star Sania Mirza has also come forward and has done her bit in handout basic necessities for the daily wage workers during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. She has urge people to donate some amount of money in this crisis.


Other than sportspersons, Powerstar Pawan Kalyan also donated a total sum of Rs 2 crore to combat the spread of coronavirus. Kalyan donated Rs 50 lakh each to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Minister Relief Funds. He also donated Rs 1 crore to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.



Other southern celebrity, the Mega Powerstar Ram Charan has handed out Rs. 70 lakh towards the center and States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Relied Fund in this moment of crisis.


All these donations will definitely help in combating this deadly virus. Meanwhile, according to the latest reports, the number of confirmed cases has risen up to 685 including 43 recovered and 12 deaths.
