Brahmakumari chief Dadi Janki dies at 104, PM condoles death

Jaipur, Mar 27: Brahmakumari Chief Rajyogini Dadi Janki left her mortal frame at the age of 104 after a prolonged illness.

Brahmakumari Sansthan is the largest spiritual organization managed by women with its headquarter at Mount Abu in Rajasthan.

Dadi Janki breathed her last at 2 pm on Friday at a hospital in Mound Abu. She was admitted for respiratory and stomach-related problems for last two months, an official statement said.

Her last rites will be performed on Friday at a ground located in Shanti Van campus of Brahmakumari Headquarters in Mount Abu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled her demise saying that she served the society with diligence. She toiled to bring a positive difference in the lives of others, he added. Her efforts towards empowering women were noteworthy.

“My thoughts are with her countless followers in this sad hour. Om Shanti,” he wrote.

Rajyogini Dadi Janki was born on January 1, 1916, in Hyderabad in the then Sindh province, now in Pakistan. She had decided to tread this spiritual path at the age of 21.

She toured the western countries in the 1970s and visited 140 countries around the world as she set up ‘Seva Kendras’ in those countries. Chief administrators of 8000 of such kendras are women.

She was appointed the brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by the government for her work in the field of maintaining cleanliness.
