Remember the match-winning last over bowled by the former pacer against Pakistan in the 2007 World T20 final. Sharma had successfully defended 13 runs in the immensely-pressure game and dismissed former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq to lift the trophy under the captainship of MS Dhoni. He had become an overnight hero with the whole nation erupting with joy and happiness as it was the debut of the ICC T20 World Cup and India had won it. It is the lone victory of India in the T20 World Cup.

The 36-year-old could get enough chances post the World Cup. However, he was appointed as police officer in Haryana Police. Currently posted in Hisar, he is deputy superintendent in Haryana Police since 2007.

ICC has now lauded the former pacer after he shared pictures of himself helping enforce lockdown in Haryana who is assisting the civilians in combating the virus. “2007: #T20WorldCup hero. 2020: Real world hero. In his post-cricket career as a policeman, India’s Joginder Sharma is among those doing their bit amid a global health crisis,” ICC tweeted with pictures of Sharma from the 2007 T20 World Cup final and him as a policeman.

Sharma, who made his international debut for India in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2004, played 4 ODIs and 4 T20Is for the Men in Blue. He last played for India in 2007 but continued to represent Haryana in first-class cricket until 2017. The all-rounder has played 77 First-Class and 80 List A matches in his career amassing 2804 and 1040 runs respectively. He has also picked up 412 wickets in the domestic circuit.
