Assuring cover of Delhi locals in UP amid COVID19, Yogi writes to Kejriwal hoping safety of UP natives in Delhi

New Delhi, March 30: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanth wrote to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday about assuring to take care of all the Delhi residents who are temporarily living in UP and requested to do the same to UP residents currently living in Delhi. The letter came against the backdrop of politics over the issue of migrant laborers fleeing the national capital to some parts of UP and Bihar as the entire nation is under lockdown due to the rise in coronavirus pandemic.

In his letter, CM Yogi assured Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal that his government will take care of all residents of Delhi who are currently living in Uttar Pradesh. However, he also further expressed hope that the Delhi government will also ensure that health, security and other necessities of residents of Uttar Pradesh, currently living in Delhi, will be taken care of.

On the other hand, to observe the situation of migrant workers who are returning to UP from Delhi, CM Yogi will be visiting the NCR city of Noida today. He is also scheduled to inspect the control room located in Delhi and expected to stay in Delhi tonight and visit Ghaziabad and Meerut tomorrow. Meanwhile, Delhi CM Kejriwal is scheduled to hold a media briefing at 2 PM and could refer to steps taken by his government in the matter.
 
Following the announcement of lockdown, UP has noticed an escalation in migration with several UP residents from many states returning to their homes in UP.
 
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government today transferred Rs 611 crore directly to the bank account of 27.5 Lakh workers of the state, under the MNREGA scheme, in view of the 21-day lockdown. The CM also spoke to some of the beneficiaries through video-conference and informed them of the scheme.
