AWWA Comes Forward to help Needy People amid Lockdown

New Delhi, March 31: Several organizations and individuals have come forward to contribute to combating the coronavirus pandemic which has created chaos in the country. Meanwhile, it is now one of the largest voluntary organizations in the country Army Wives Welfare Organisation (AWWA) who has come forward to help the needy people by handing over 2,500 food packets to the Delhi Government here on Tuesday.

The decision to distribute to the needy people came after the announcement of a 21-day lockdown was imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, they have distributed over 2,500 food packets and almost 1,200 food packets were handed over yesterday. The organization decided that the food packet distribution free of charge will continue for five days.
 
"The food packets were prepared under Army’s AWWA Lunch project by families of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks at their houses in various colonies of Delhi," the statement read.
 
AWWA is one of the largest voluntary organizations in the country, it aims for the holistic development and well-being of Army Wives, including their children, rehabilitation of war widows and differently-abled children. It also takes active participation in the activities of Central and State Governments towards improving the living conditions of the poor.
 
There has been a mass exodus of migrant workers fleeing the national capital Delhi to some parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh given the travel restriction due to the lockdown. However, the government is taking respective measures to tackle the situation as it has created havoc in the lives of underprivileged people.
 
On the other hand, according to the latest reports, there 1117 positive cases in India, along with 32 deaths and 102 people getting recovered from the virus.
