Praising artists for holding on culture and tradition, Prez Kovind confers National Lalit Kala Akademi Awards

New Delhi, March 04: Indian art, culture and performing art represent country as a vibrant society. Although Indians have transformed to be modern today, they fortunately do not lag behind in holding on moral values and traditions. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the 61st annual awards of the National Lalit Kala Akademi to 15 artists on March 4, 2020 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Indian children love to learn classical dance and music, dance and learning epic lessons from our culture. The institutions like the National Kala AKademi nurture and promote all types of cultural activities. The National Lalit Kala Akademi awards are conferred to recognize individuals for their outstanding work in the field of art.
 
The Akademi had nominated a seven-member selection jury this year comprising eminent artists, critics and art practitioners from across the country. The awardees were honoured with a shawl, plaque and cash prize worth Rs 1 lakh. The final 15 awardees were selected from among 283 artworks.
The awardees include Anoop Kumar Manzukhi Gopi from Kerala, David Malakar from West Bengal, Hari Ram Kumbhawat from Rajasthan, Devendra Kumar Khare from Gujarat, Dinesh Pandya from Maharashtra, Mohan Kumar from Karnataka and Yashwant Singh from Delhi.
 
The National Art Award is one of the awards and honours in India and Asia awarded by Lalit Kala Akademi. The national academy of fine arts, the Lalit Kala Akademi was envisioned with a clear perspective regarding its purpose as a National institution. It was established on August 5, 1954. It is funded by the Union Ministry of Culture. Its headquarters are at Ravindra Bhawan, Ferozshah Road, New Delhi. In April 2015, Government of India took over management control of Lalit Kala Akademi.
