Wipro in line for PM Cares Fund! Azim Premji Foundation pledges massive support; Commits 1125 cr

New Delhi, April 1: Following enormous contributions from Tata Group and Reliance Group, Azim Premji Foundation along with Wipro Limited and Wipro Enterprises has pledged to support and handed out Rs 1,125 crore to tackle the coronavirus crisis in India. 
 
"This resource will help to enable the dedicated medical service fraternity in the frontline of the battle against the outbreak and the mitigating its wide-ranging human impact, particularly on the most disadvantaged of our society."Modern global society has not confronted a crisis of this magnitude and type and all must work together to not only deal with this crisis and minimize its human impact, particularly on the disadvantaged," said Azim Premji Foundation's spokesperson in a statement.

“Integrated action will be taken for a comprehensive on-the-ground response in specific geographies focused on immediate humanitarian aid, and augmentation of healthcare capacity, including containing the COVID-19 outbreak and treating those affected by it," Wipro said. The Azim Premji Foundation's 1,600-person team in collaboration with its over 350 strong civil society partners will lead the effort in coordinating with government institutions in curbing the pandemic.
"Of the Rs 1,125 crore, Wipro Ltd's commitment is Rs 100 crore, Wipro Enterprises Ltd's is Rs 25 crore, and that of the Azim Premji Foundation is Rs 1,000 crore, it added. These sums are in addition to the annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of Wipro, and the usual philanthropic spends of the Azim Premji Foundation", the statement further added.
 
Corporate India has been rushing in to help the government and citizens fight the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Yesterday, Reliance Industries' chief Mukesh Ambani has also committed a further Rs 500 crore to the Prime Minister's COVID-19 fund, topping up over the multi-crore initiative of India's first coronavirus hospital, meals to the needy, and fuel to emergency vehicles. Earlier, Ratan Tata and Tata trusts have donated 1,500 crores for combating coronavirus pandemic.
 
While Anand Mahindra of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group had offered to provide Mahindra resorts as care facilities for infected patients. The Mahindra Group is also working on making available ventilators which are crucial to the healthcare of those infected.
