Dingko Singh to be airlifted from Manipur to Delhi by BFI-arranged air ambulance

New Delhi, April 22: In the midst of nationwide-lockdown, Dingko Singh, the former Asian Games gold medal-winning pugilist will be airlifted to Delhi from Manipur arranged by Boxing Federation of India (BFI) after he had made a request to the Sports Ministry to help him travel from Manipur to Delhi for his cancer treatment.

Confirming his further treatment will be at Delhi, RK Sacheti, the executive director of BFI said on Tuesday, "BFI president Ajay Singh today spoke to Dingko Singh and assured him for giving him desired help. A special SpiceJet air ambulance will airlift Dingko Singh to Delhi on April 25."
 
Dingko came to know that he had contracted jaundice earlier this year and was immediately admitted to ILBS on January 28. The doctors suspected cholangiocarcinoma, a form of liver cancer. the doctors had asked him to undergo radiation but it can only be done in Delhi.
 
However, due to the travel restrictions given the lockdown, the former boxer could not travel. Further, it was reported that the Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju had spoken to Manipur Chief Minister and requested him to extend every possible assistance to Dingko Singh because he is in need of medical assistance in Imphal where he is staying now.
 
Sacheti further assured that the Sports Ministry has made arrangements regarding his treatment. "His radiation is here, so the doctors have given the date. As a result, BFI is airlifting him".
