Ramayana marks world record of 'Highest Viewed Entertainment Programme' globally by 77 mn on April 16

Mumbai, May 1: Ramanand Sagar's mythological series, 'Ramayan', has been smashing viewership records since it is being rebroadcasted on Doordarshan during the lockdown days. The recent one being the world's most-watched entertainment program globally with 7.7 crore viewers on 16 April announced the DD National.

The serial is being re-telecasted again since March 28 on public demand as a source of entertainment during the lockdown days. Since then the series had a viewership of 82 percent, a record high for any Indian television series. The show has become a game-changer for Indian television which has garnered almost 170 million viewers worldwide.
 
 
The popular show also generated the highest ever TRP rating for any Hindi General Entertainment Channel program since 2015. The channel generated a total of 1.64 billion impressions from 18 to 24 April, as per BARC data. With this, DD has become the most viewed channel across all genres in the Indian television space.
 
However, the viewers are not limited to India only, but this religious show is being watched all over the world. The new record of this show has been created due to the audience from all over the world.
 
The series is based on the Valmiki’s Epic ancient Hindu epic Ramayana and the series follows the journey of Lord Rama.' Ramayan's serial was originally broadcasted from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. Later it was aired on TV every Sunday, at 9.30 am. Till June 2003, it remained recorded in the Limca Book of Records as "the most-watched mythological serial in the world".
 
The show features Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahri, Arvind Trivedi, Sanjay Jog, Sameer Rajda, Dara Singh, and Bal Dhuri in lead roles.
 
Meanwhile, the last mega episode of Uttar Ramayana is going to be telecasted on DD National from 9 to 11 PM, on 2nd May.
