The moment Narendra Modi took charge as India's Prime Minister in 2014, a whisper campaign was started by a select group who claimed that ' the Idea of India' that evolved from India's freedom struggle, was being endangered.

It is clear that this group or to be more appropriate, this lobby is constituted by those who leveraged their proximity to the Congress government at the Centre to gain plum posts and immense benefits, not only for themselves and their families but for their entire network of friends and relatives. For decades, they have established a virtual monopoly in bureaucracy, media, academicia, various boards and committees of the government etc. No wonder, they enjoy a share of voice that is way beyond their numbers.

That is why, we have to filter out the brouhaha created by them about the 'Idea of India' to reach the essence of their argument. Let's begin by examining if their Idea of India is the only one that evolved from the freedom movement as they claim. Though Congress played an important role in our freedom movement, it was not the only force working towards India's freedom. Armed revolutionaries were an important stream of the struggle. Congressmen themselves were not a homogeneous group but represented a wide spectrum of opinions from left to right. Since attaining freedom was the most pressing objective, they were willing to suspend their differences and work together. Congress had become a symbol of nationalism and patriotism.

However, within a couple of years of Independence, both Gandhi and Patel were no more, leaving Nehru virtually unchallenged in the party and in the country. Nehru systematically sidelined Rajaji, Rajendra Prasad, Kriplani and others to create his monopoly in the party. His natural inclination was towards the left as he romanticized the communist revolutions in Russia and China. As a result the Nehruvian Idea of India was clearly leaning towards the left. He was willing to put country's interest on the back burner for the sake of his global image and his romantic ideas.

Indira Gandhi, though a nationalist at heart had to depend on the support of communists for the survival of her government, when she split the party in 1969, showing stalwarts of 'Syndicate Congress', the door. Communists extracted a huge price for this support. Vasili Mitrokhin and Yuri Bezmenov, senior functionaries of KGB have recorded how Mrs Gandhi's government and all the major institutions in the country were systematically compromised by the Soviet Union. They have also described in vivid details, which make a truly sad and sickening reading, how the so called 'intellectuals' belonging to academics, history, art and culture, cinema, bureaucracy, media... were invited to Moscow as state guests, wined & dined and turned into USSR stooges. This lobby, described by KGB as 'the Useful Idiots', ensured that Congress's ' Idea of India' leaned firmly towards the left.

During the Sonia Gandhi era from 2004 to 2014, leftists in the garb of NGOs, Human Rights Groups, Environmentalists etc., took complete control of governance. An extra constitutional National Advisory Council was created which included members of this lobby, many of them, active supporters of Naxal violence. NAC was empowered to draft laws and decide government policies on important issues. It included people like Harsh Mander who recently told a frenzied crowd in Delhi during the violent anti CAA protests that " from now on, Supreme Court will not be allowed to decide on the issues. They will be decided on the streets !!!

This period saw complete 'Communistization ' of the Congress party and its total divorce from nationalism and patriotism. It is thus clear that the 'Idea of India', the lobby is losing sleep over, is not the one that evolved from the freedom movement but the one perpetuated by Nehru-Gndhi family and its leftist eco system. A big hue and cry is being created because Modi is not willing to follow this 'idea' , thus shattering the lobby's cozy comfort zone !

Now let's try and understand what this idea really stands for. Its basic tenets are -

- India became a nation due to the British rule.

- Ramayan and Mahabharat are mere fiction, without any historical evidence. ( Sonia- Manmohan government had submitted an affidavit in the court stating that Lord Ram is a fictional character and hence their govt has no
objection to the destruction of ' Ramsetu. ' )

- Mughal period was India's golden era.

- Aryan invasion destroyed Indus civilization.

- Because of divisions like Aryan - Dravidian, North - South, Brahmins - Others... there is nothing to bind India into a nation.

- Such a bond was created only due to the freedom struggle under Congress leadership and to some extent due to the ' Ganga - Jamni Tehzeeb' evolved during the Mughal period.

- Congress under Gandhi-Nehru gave the country values like Secularism, Socialism, Democracy etc. that constitute the Idea of India !

These values- Socialism, Secularism etc were a direct import from the west and had no connect with India's soil or soul. Other than a minuscule westernized elite, the people of India were largely untouched by this 'idea' which was inherently in denial of India's rich heritage of thousands of years. Above all, this idea always faced a crisis of credibility, as it was piloted by the leftists, known for their convient interpretation of history, culture, values with scant regard for truth.

Though, this trademark Idea of India of the Nehru-Gandhi family and its ecosystem is largely influenced by the left, Communists have their own Idea of India which is drastically different from that of ' the useful idiots.' They believe, India is an 'Illegitimate State' which must be broken into 18 parts. " Bharat tere tukde honge " is not a thoughtless slogan of the lunatic fringe. It is the official 'Idea of India' of the Communists ! Don't forget, Communist Paty of India had supported India's partition right from the time it was mooted by Jinnah and Arundhati Roy has publicly stated that the day India's constitution was adopted is the ' black day' for her.

The third Idea of India comes from a pantheon of leaders and thinkers like Swami Vivekanand, Bankimchandra Chatterjee, Veer Sawarkar, Dr. Hedgewar, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee , Deendayal Upadhaya and many others. The major tenets of this idea are -

- A Santana tradition of thousands of years is a bond that ties India together.

- Though, boundaries of kingdoms have changed over a period of time, culturally, India has always been one nation.

- Ramayan and Mahabharat are the epics that narrate India's glorious history. The landmarks and memories of Ramayan and Mahabharat spread across the length and breadth of the country are the symbols of India's cultural unity.

- Reinvigorating India's rich knowledge based, philosophical and scientific tradition that welcomes fresh ideas is the only way to India's sustainable progress and prosperity.

- India has been and will always be a home to various religions, languages, races and ethnicities only due to the inclusiveness and tolerant nature of Hindu civilization.

- Indian citizens may follow any religion or way of worship but they are bound together by a strong bond of an ancient culture and civilizational values.

Images from Ramayan and Mahabharat that adorn the first copy of India's constitution reflect a strong connect with this idea. This Idea of India with strong Indian roots is being widely accepted by the people of India.

This rapidly growing acceptance of the truly Indian 'Idea of India' that places national interest above everything else and believes in 'India first', is the real reason why the ' Useful Idiots' are going ballistic !!!
