However, the flick was originally slated to hit the silver screens on April 17, 2020, but due to the on-going Coronavirus crisis, the release of the film had to be postponed.

The makers announced it with a new poster of the film featuring the lead actors Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana. Sircar said, “This is a dawn of a new era for Indian entertainment. I am happy that a global audience will be able to watch our gritty, quirky, and light-hearted dramedy.”

While sharing the details about the film's release, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "Ek izzatdaar janaab aur uske anokhe kirayedar ki kahaani. 'Gulabo Sitabo' premieres June 12 only on Amazon Prime," while Ayushmann said, "Advance mein aapko book kar rahe hai."

Meanwhile, Gulabo Sitabo has become the first Bollywood film to hit on a digital platform instead of theaters.

Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky tale of two slimy scheming foxes, a landlord, and tenant, in a game of one-upmanship. The film shooting was done in Uttar Pradesh. It is written by Juhi Chaturvedi and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.

Ayushmann has reunited with Sircar after 2012. Both of them had worked in 'Vicky Donor' while Shoojit has also previously worked with Big B in Piku (2015), alongside Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan.

Meanwhile, several other Bollywood filmmakers are looking at various digital platforms to release their multi-starrers movies. According to the sources, the makers of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmi Bomb’, Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Ludo’, Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, are also thinking about a digital release amidst the coronavirus crisis.
