Piyush Goyal urges pregnant women, old-aged to avoid travelling by Shramik trains

New Delhi, May 29: After noting several cases of deaths related to pre-existing medical conditions while traveling from Shramik Special trains, Union minister Railway minister Piyush Goyal has urged people suffering from serious ailments, pregnant women, children and those above 65 years to travel in Shramik Special trains "only when necessary"people on Friday.
 
"I appeal to people suffering from serious ailments, pregnant women & those above 65 years & below 10 years of age to travel only when necessary in Shramik Trains. Railway Parivaar is committed to ensuring the safety of all passengers" goyal said.

“Indian Railways has been running Shramik special Trains on a daily basis throughout the country to ensure that migrants can travel back to their homes. It has been observed that some people who are availing this service have pre-existing medical conditions which aggravate the risk they face during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on Friday (29 May).
The ministry said that the Railways was working 24x7 to ensure that rail services are provided to all the citizens of the country who need to travel. However, the safety of the passengers is its biggest concern Railway also shared the helpline numbers 138 and 139, they also urged people to reach out to the authorities in case of any distress or emergency.
 
The railways have been running Shramik special Trains on a daily basis throughout the country to ensure that migrants can travel back to their homes since May 1. Indian Railways has run more than 3,500 Shramik Special trains in 26 days. Around 48 lakh stranded migrants have been transported till now to their home states. Most of the workers have traveled to states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.
