"In 1883 VeerSavarkar was born. In his fight for freedom, he was inspired by Russian revolutionaries and established contacts with them to share experience of underground work. We are sharing some quotes from his book Majhi Janmathep", the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India tweeted.
In Russia thousands of revolutionaries have spent their lives in going from village to village and educating the masses, their unfortunate and ignorant brethren. Wht then should we grudge to do it here? By our teaching, we are not only making them learn to spell their rudiments but we are opening the windows of their soul upon the world, Savarkar noted in his book 'The Story of my Transportation for Life'.

In one of the incidents on meeting with a Russian naval officer at Port Blair during the World War 1, (possibly September 1914), he had said- "French submarines and Russian dreadnoughts touched at Port Blair and passed on. The naval officers on board these warships visited the jail from time to time. The captain of the Russian submarine had a long talk with me. The visit of these officers and their occasional talk were not without their consolation to me in the solitude of my cell".
