AYUSH notes no drug but holistic, integrative solution to aid come out of COVID-19 pandemic

Entire mankind is fighting against Corona virus disease in various ways and each individual is experiencing the causes and consequences at ground level. Now, when the third phase of the lockdown has started, Vijnana Bharati in its lecture series reached out to Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH who emphasized on the importance and role of AYUSH systems in combating this current pandemic situation.
 
Informing about the Ministry’s efforts to overcome this situation, he said that most of the people are experiencing such crisis for the first time, but in terms of human history such situations have been encountered and human race have come out of these situations. He gave example of ‘Spanish flu’ also known as 1918 influenza pandemic which is said to be the most severe pandemic in recent history.

"In the wake of this pandemic situation all branches of AYUSH like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Naturopathy will be helpful in maintaining the optimum health. During Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918 principles such as Genus Epidemicus mentioned in homeopathy were considered useful", he said.
 
All the streams of AYUSH unitedly emphasize on maintaining the healthy life by increasing immunity in various ways. He further mentioned about Vyuadhikshamatva, concepts of 'Dinacharya'- daily regimes and 'Ritucharya' - seasonal regimes, mentioned in Ayurveda to explain it. Such efforts may help in reducing the complications of the circumstances. He informed about few observational studies which Ministry is conducting to understand the spread of the disease. This data will require statistical backing to publish it and scientists are working on it.
 
Ministry of AYUSH has created the task force consisting of representatives from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and AYUSH experts to scrutinize and review all the proposals received. This task force is chaired by Dr Bhushan Patwardhan and they will recommend the chosen proposals to the Government for taking up scientific studies. Till now more than 2500 proposals / suggestions have received at crowdsource platform at the website of Ministry of AYUSH.
 
Emphasizing on conducting research, data collection and publications that are required in the AYUSH sector before making tall claims, Kotecha said that research in health systems is done with the help of multiple disciplines and this interdisciplinary approach which is very much required now.
 
He informed about the human resource developed by Ministry of AYUSH to combat this situation. Ministry has created immunity promotion guidelines in eight international languages. He also briefed about the united efforts of Ministry with WHO, ICMR, CSIR and many other research institutions. Signing off, he specified that AYUSH Ministry is not claiming that AYUSH has any drug or medicine to treat this COVID19 only with the holistic and integrative solution we will surely come out of this pandemic.
