'I for India' on Facebook raises donation of over Rs 52 cr; Know more about world's biggest fundraiser

Mumbai, May 05: Receiving tremendous response from millions of people, Bollywood's digital concert 'I For India' became the world’s biggest live fundraiser on Facebook. It has raised an amount of over Rs 52 crore donations for frontline workers who need provisions during the COVID-19 pandemic with over 85 celebrities participating in the concert.

The filmmaker Karan Johar, who was spearheading this concert announced that a total of Rs. 52 crores were raised for relief. A total of Rs. 4.3 crores were raised through Facebook donations and Rs. 47.77 crores were raised via corporate donations. All the proceeds from the fundraiser concert will go to the India Covid Response Fund managed by GiveIndia, to support on-ground relief.
 
 
The concert, live-streamed by Facebook, it started with Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar briefing about the purpose of the concert and informing the viewers that the money raised through the event will go to Give India's COVID-19 Response Fund, which aims to help the coronavirus frontline workers.
 
Actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Diljit Dosanjh, Dulquer Salmaan, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Aamir Khan, participated in this concert.
 
The show witnessed some musical performances by singers like Badshah, Lisa Mishra, B Praak, Papon, Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy, Soni Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal and many more.
 
The concert also featured international artists, Bryan Adams, Will Smith, Mick Jagger, Jack Black, Mindy Kaling, Lily Singh, Jonas Brothers, Kareena Kapoor Khan among others who performed on screen and spread information about the virus.
 
Moreover, the celebrities also raised voice against issues like child abuse and domestic violence, which have been on a rise since the lockdown began in India from March 25. The stars also encouraged the audience to treat stray animals affectionately and develop eco-friendly habits going forward.
 
The event also paid tribute to Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor who passed away last week.
 
Shah Rukh closed the concert with a song composed by rapper Badshah and penned by lyricist Saini. Titled 'Sab Sahi Ho Jayega', which is about the perils of being locked up inside homes and the hope that sooner or later the world will be coronavirus free.
