India Navy sends off three warships to evacuate stranded Indian citizens from Maldives and UAE

Mumbai, May 5: India has sent out its three of its warships to evacuated the stranded Indian citizens from Maldives and United Arab Emirates given the lockdown while a total of 14 warships have been prepared to evacuate other Indian citizens from Gulf and other countries.

According to the Indian Navy, the warships include INS Jalashwa, INS Magar, and INS Shardul. "INS Jalashwa deployed at sea, off Mumbai along with INS Magar diverted for the Maldives. INS Shardul also at sea diverted to Dubai, for getting expatriates," noted Commander Sridhar Warrier, Defence Spokesperson.
 
The Jalashwa, apart from its crew, can carry 1,000 troops however after social distancing, it can evacuate about 850 people whereas the other two warships can carry several hundred people apart from the crew. INS Jalashwa sailed from Visakhapatnam a few days ago from the east coast to the west coast.
 
On the other hand, earlier on Monday, the Indian Consulate in Dubai announced that two special flights will be arranged on Thursday to evacuate Indians stranded in the United Arab Emirates.
 
The passenger list for the two flights Abu Dhabi to Kochi and Dubai to Kozhikode will be finalized by the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, and the Consulate General of India, Dubai.
 
On Monday, the government said that it will start bringing back Indians stranded abroad because of the pandemic from Wednesday (May 7) in a phased manner with the service being offered on "payment-basis" with only asymptomatic being allowed on-board.
 
The government said upon arrival, all the passengers will have to download the "Aarogya Setu" mobile application. "On reaching the destination, everyone would have to register on the Aarogya Setu app. Everyone would be medically screened. After scrutiny, they would be quarantined for 14 days, either in a hospital or in an institutional quarantine on payment-basis, by the concerned state government. COVID test would be done after 14 days and further action would be taken according to health protocols," the statement read.
