India hands over 200,000 tablets of HCQ with other medical essentials to Myanmar

Yangon, May, 05: In a bid to help the neighboring country amid in this coronavirus outbreak, India on Tuesday sent medical equipment including medical supplies and medicines to Myanmar to aid them in their fight against the deadly virus.

The Indian envoy to Myanmar Saurabh Kumar handed over the supplies which include around 200,000 tablets of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), gloves, body bags, syringes, defibrillators and more to the Ministry of Health and Sports of that country. Indian Embassy in Myanmar said these medical supplies are reflective of the united effort needed to combat this disease.
"The government of India stands in solidarity with the people and the government of Myanmar in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The medical supplies are reflective of the united effort needed to combat this disease," he said.
 
"The contribution is indicative of the traditionally warm and friendly ties between India and Myanmar and would augment Myanmar’s determined efforts to fight the pandemic," he further added.
 
A few days ago, PM Narendra Modi spoke to Myanmar State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. They discuss an ongoing scenario in the domestic and regional contexts and updated each other on the steps being taken to control the spread of the pandemic.
 
India has been helping its neighboring countries and all who have sought help since the pandemic has started. India has sent 2.8 million hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets and 1.9 million paracetamol tablets as part of its assistance to other countries.
 
Moreover, India had also dispatched the Rapid Response Team (RRT) of doctors, nurses, and paramedics to Male, the Maldives in the neighborhood. The team which is from the Indian Army was there to train and exchange best practices with the local doctors in that country and also gave them guidance on how to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
