INS Jalashwa sails out of Iran with 687 Indian citizens

Bandar Abbas (Iran), June 26: The Indian Navy continues to evacuate Indian nationals from overseas as the Indian Naval Ship Jalashwa sailed out of Bandar Abbas, Iran on Thursday evening for another mission under the Indian Navy's Operation Samudra Setu. The ship will return to Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu with 687 Indian citizens after the mandatory medical and baggage screening.

During the transit to Iran, the navy crew of INS Jalashwa went through preparatory activities for the evacuation operation. The activities included sanitization and preparation of living spaces for evacuees, preparation of welcome kits comprising masks and toiletries followed by allocation of bunks as per passenger manifest received from the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
 
 
"The ship also handed over two Air Evacuation Pods indigenously developed by the Indian Navy, to the Iranian authorities. Living spaces onboard Jalashwa have been divided into three zones, while adhering to COVID-19 precautions, with zones earmarked for embarked personnel as well as the ship's crew that may frequently come in contact with them," the statement read.
 
INS Jalashwa is expected to reach its destination in around 5 days after covering a distance of over 3000 km. The Indian Navy ship would facilitate the return of 687 Indian nationals including 651 from Tamil Nadu and 36 from Kerala.
 
So far, the Indian Navy under the Operation Samudra Setu has evacuated 3,992 Indian nationals stranded abroad.
