His statement comes in response to a question while speaking at the Virtual Brussels Forum when he was asked about the reason behind reducing the number of troops based in Germany.

"There will be fewer US resources in certain places. They will be at other places as there is a threat from the CCP to India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the South China Sea. We're going to make sure we're postured appropriately to counter the PLA. We think that the challenge of our times, and we're going to make sure we have resources in place to do that," Pompeo said. He further stated that the US military is “postured appropriately” to meet these “challenges of our time.”

“I spoke this month with EU Foreign Ministers, I got a lot of feedback on China’s Communist Party, laid out a series of facts that talked about People’s Liberation Army's PLA provocative military action including its continued aggression in the South China Sea, deadly border confrontations with India and threats against peaceful neighbors,” Pompeo said.

The force posture review is being done at the direction of President Donald Trump, as part of which the US is reducing the number of its troops in Germany from about 52,000 to 25,000, Pompeo said. However, Trump has been severely criticized for reducing US troops from Germany as experts claim that it will increase the threat from Russia to Europe.

Last week, Mike Pompeo criticized the Chinese Army for "escalating" the border tension with India and militarizing the strategic South China Sea.
