The coronavirus has indeed brought in tough times for the entire world. More so for the entire medical fraternity who has suddenly been brought into the limelight as front-line warriors fighting this battle on behalf of the human race. Young doctors across the world are working day and night tirelessly to provide treatment at hospitals. In the process not only are they risking their physical health, but also putting at risk their own mental health for the benefits of their patients
 
Doctors are often given a god like status in our country and that's not without good reason. Though if we talk about today, there are many doctors who are not particularly ethical, however, there are many, many who understand the true worth and value of the profession that they have chosen. Doctor's Day is precisely meant to celebrate and thank such doctors.

Why July 1?
 
As a matter of fact, Doctor's Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries across the world. In India, it is celebrated on July 1 because it is the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (Dr. B C Roy), one of the most famous physicians of India. It was started by the Government of India in the year 1991 to mark a respect for the great physician.

Interesting facts about Doctor's Day
 
In other countries, the day is celebrated on different days, such as in Brazil, it is celebrated on October 18, while in the US, it is celebrated on March 30. The symbol of Doctor's Day is a red carnation because the flower stands for love, charity, selflessness and sacrifice, traits that a doctor must hold.
 
The first ever Doctor's Day was observed in the year 1933 on March 30 in the US state of Georgia. It involved sending cards to physicians and placing flowers on the graves of dead doctors.

Not just doctors, the day is also meant to commemorate the medical industry and its advancements. Doctors' efforts in bettering people's lives through technology have been relentless in India and this day marks those accomplishments.
 
Doctors in the midst of the pandemic are working hard selflessly, risking their lives to ensure good health and safety for us. Not only wish but whatever we do to celebrate our Corona Warriors for their sincere efforts to lessen the mortality of COVID19 will be less.
