The engagement was consistent with the consensus reached on July 5 between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who are the Special Representatives for border talks when discussed complete disengagement.

"India and China have been engaged in discussions through established military and diplomatic channels to address the prevailing situation along the LAC. Commanders from PLA & Indian Army held a meeting at Chushul, on the Indian side, for the fourth round of talks, on 14 July 2020," the statement read.

The meetings come after the brutal face-off occurred in Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. The first two meetings took place at Moldo on the Chinese side on June 6 and June 22 while the third meeting was at Chushul. The last two meets lasted over 12 hours each to turn down the rising tensions along the LAC.

The first stage of the disengagement process between the Indian Army and China's People Liberation Army at friction points - Hot Springs and Gogra along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh was completed last week. The Chinese troops moved back by approximately 2 kilometers as well as from Finger 4 to Finger 5 in the Finger area.

The senior Commanders - XIV Corps Commander Lt General Harinder Singh and South Xinjiang Military Region Commander Major General Liu Lin- reviewed the progress on "implementation of the first phase of disengagement and discussed further steps to ensure complete disengagement. The two sides remain committed to the objective of complete disengagement. This process is intricate and requires constant verification. They are taking it forward through regular meetings at diplomatic and military level," it further added.
