Indian pharma industry capable of producing COVID-19 vaccine for the entire world says Bill Gates

Washington DC, July 17: Praising at India’s pharmaceutical industry, Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates said India has the capability to make COVID -19 vaccine. He added that India will be able to produce COVID-19 vaccines, not just for the country but for the entire world.

While speaking in the Discovery Plus documentary titled Covid-19: India’s War Against The Virus, Gates said that India's pharmaceutical industry is already the largest supplier of vaccines in the world with the pack being led by the Serum Institute. Other notable suppliers include Bio E and Bharat (Biotech). They are doing work to help make the coronavirus vaccine, building on other great capacities that they have used for other diseases.
 
“I am excited that the pharmaceutical industry there will be able to produce not just for India but also for the entire world. (This is) What we need to reduce the deaths and make sure we are immune, which is how we end the epidemic.” Gates also said that his Gates foundation is also a partner with the government, particularly with the department of biotechnology, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the office of the principal scientific advisor provide advice and help about getting these tools going.
 
"Covid-19: India’s War Against The Virus" premiered on Discovery Plus on 16 July at 8 PM it will also retelecast on 20 July at 8 PM on Discovery. The 54-minute documentary shows the fight India has waged against the virus in these three months. It shows how the virus entered and spread in India. It also shines a light on important developments that have taken place ever since the country's first coronavirus victim was detected in Kerala in January.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had interacted with the Bill gate in May. They discussed the global response to Covid-19 and the importance of global coordination on scientific innovation to combat the pandemic.
