"Everyone on the ICC Board extends their wholehearted thanks to Shashank for the commitment ge has shown to our sport. There is no doubt that cricket owes Shashank a debt of gratitude for all he has done for the sport. He has left cricket and the ICC in a better place than he found it," Khwaja stated.

The election process for electing the next chairman is reported to be in the next week. In the last few months, there have been speculations going around as to who will replace him. There was even speculation that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly might contest in the elections after Cricket South Africa's director of cricket, Graeme Smith had publicly asserted for him to lead the ICC.

However, Ganguly has not yet revealed anything about contesting the elections but it is learned that England board (ECB) chairman Colin Graves has higher chances to head the ICC.
