Over 7 lakhs persons recovered from COVID-19; Recovery rate reaches over 62%

New Delhi, July 20: In a major development, the Health Ministry stated that more than 7 lakh persons have been cured of COVID-19 and discharged till now whereas the recovery rate has reached 62.93 percent.

"More than 7 lakh persons have been cured of COVID-19 and discharged till now. This has further expanded the difference between those who are active COVID patients and the recovered persons (7,00,086) by 3,09,627. 22,664 COVID patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate as of now is at 62.62%," the statement from the release read.
 
 
In terms of recovery rate, the top five states and Union Territories are - Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand whereas the recovery rate is above 73%. There are 19 States and Union Territories that have better recovery rates than the national average of 62.93%. In terms of the number of people recovered from COVID-19, Maharashtra is leading the tally followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi. In the total active cases, more than 66% of cases are in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi.
 
Meanwhile, ICMR said that a total of three lakh 61 thousand 24 samples were tested for coronavirus in various laboratories in the country within 24 hours. This is the highest number of tests conducted by the laboratories in one day since the outbreak of Covid-19. So far, one crore 34 lakh 33 thousand 742 tests have been conducted. ICMR is continuously ramping up the testing facilities in the country.
 
At present, a total of one thousand 253 laboratories across India are conducting the test for Covid-19. This includes 885 government laboratories and 368 private laboratories' chains.
 
As earlier reported, amid the massive spike of coronavirus cases in India, the case fatality rate has fallen below 2.5 percent against the global average of 4.2 percent. "The case fatality rate is progressively falling and currently, it is 2.49%. India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world," the Health Ministry stated.
