New Delhi, July 20: Amid the massive spike of coronavirus cases in India, the Health Ministry has stated that India's fatality rate has fallen below 2.5 percent against the global average of 4.2 percent.

This comes as numerous solutions were implemented in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. "With an effective containment strategy, aggressive testing, and standardized clinical management protocols based on the holistic Standard of Care approach, the Case Fatality Rate has significantly dipped. The case fatality rate is progressively falling and currently, it is 2.49%. India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world," the statement read.
 
The central and the state/UT governments have ramped up the testing and hospital infrastructure by combining public and private sector efforts. Several states have conducted population surveys to map and identify the vulnerable population like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with co-morbidities. With the help of technological solutions like Mobile Apps, it has ensured keeping the high-risk population under continuous observation, thus aiding early identification, timely clinical treatment, and reducing fatalities.
 
Further, it added, "At the ground level, frontline health workers like ASHAs and ANMs have done a commendable job of managing the migrant population and to enhance awareness at the community level. As a result, there are 29 States and UTs with CFR lower than the India average whereas 5 States and UTs have a CFR of Zero. 14 States and UTs have a CFR of less than 1%. This shows commendable work done by Public Health Apparatus of the country".
 
The fatality rates of states are below 1% like Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Bihar, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Telangana, A&N Islands, Ladakh (UT), Tripura, Assam, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, and Goa
 
On the other hand, states like Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Chandigarh, J&K (UT), Rajasthan have below 2% whereas Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are below 2.5%
Meanwhile, the daily cases of COVID-19 surpassed the 40,000 mark for the first time since the outbreak on Sunday. The tally of infections has now crossed the 1.1 million mark. India reported 40,118 cases and 675 deaths on Sunday. The national tally stood at 1,116,597, while the death toll is at 27,487.
