IPL to be played in UAE, BCCI waits for govt nod

New Delhi, July 22: The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that the 2020 edition of the mega cricket event will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the BCCI has requested the government for approval.
The IPL that was supposed to kick-start on March 29 was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, following the International Cricket Council on Monday announced that it is postponing the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, it was speculated that IPL will be played between September and November.
The board is all set to allow the following things: A) At what time will the match begin, slated to begin at 7.30 pm IST (6 pm, UAE time); B) Beginning the tournament on September 19 instead of 26 and India matches against South Africa and Australia.
"IPL 2020 which was postponed due to coronavirus will now be held in UAE," Patel said. He also said that the Board of Cricket in Control for India (BCCI) has applied for government permission and further course of action will be discussed in IPL governing council meeting. "In IPL GC will discuss the further course of action".
