PM Modi to launch three COVID-19 testing labs today; Key Points-

New Delhi, July 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch high throughput COVID-19 testing facilities today via video conferencing at 4.30 PM. These testing facilities will help to ramp up testing capacity in India and help in strengthening early detection and treatment which will in turn assist in controlling the spread of the pandemic.

1) These three high-throughput testing facilities have been set up strategically at ICMR-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida; ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai; and ICMR-National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata.
 
 
2) These testing facilities will be able to test over 10,000 samples in a day
 
3) It will also reduce turn-around-time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical materials.
 
4) These labs will not help in the current corona crisis but will enable post the pandemic for testing Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Cytomegalovirus, Chlamydia, Neisseria, Dengue, etc.
 
5) Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, along with Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath will be present in the event.
