New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited Leh-Ladakh with Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat to assess the ground situation near the Line of Actual Control amid heightened tensions with China following a fierce standoff along the border since early May and the subsequent brutal clash between both the armies that led to the death of 20 Indian Army soldiers on the intervening night of June 15-16.

Modi addressed the frontline soldiers and said that "the whole country has faith in you and does not worry as long as you are here". "The whole country has seen your Fire and Fury. The bravery of 14 Corps will be talked about everywhere. Tales of your bravery and valour are echoing in every house in the country," the PM said.

"Those who are weak can never initiate peace, bravery is a pre-requisite for peace. The whole globe has seen and understood India's pledge for world peace. We have always worked for humanity. And you all are leaders of this pledge. Whether World Wars or peace, whenever the need arises, the world has seen the victory of our braves and their efforts towards peace. We have worked for the betterment of humanity. Age of expantionism is over, this is the age of development", he added.
History is witness that expansionist forces have either lost or were forced to turn back. We have tripled the defence allocation for border areas. That way, we have ensured that your needs are fulfiled faster and in a more efficient manner. Gautam Buddha had said that courage is compassion, courage in passion, courage is chosing the right path. The brave sons of this soil who have displayed exemplary courage in Galwan Valley is the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland. Your friends from ITBP, BSF, BRO and others have joined hands in difficult times - from engineers to other staff - all of you have shown remarkable bravery in the service of this motherland. We will build an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' at any cost, Modi said in his address to jawans.

"Your will is firmer than the valleys you guard. Your arms are stronger than the mountains around you. I have seen it with my own eyes. When the safety of our nation is in your hands, the whole country has faith in you and the country does not worry as long as you are here. 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' gets even more stronger with your bravery. The bravery you and your friends have displayed have shown the entire world our strength and grit. I can see women soldiers here. There is nothing less on the battlefield", PM Modi to soldiers in Leh

Saluting all the soldiers who laid down their lives for the motherland, Modi said that 'Every corner, every stone, every river and every pebble here in Ladakh knows it is an integral part of India'.
