New Delhi, July 8: In view of the need for increased immunity of people to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the CPDHE-HRDC of Delhi University has organized an online refresher course on the “Science of Yoga and Meditation” from June 17-30, 2020. The main objective of the refresher course was to help people in developing strong immunity along with sound mental health to fight the coronavirus pandemic and its negative impacts.

The Refresher Course received a huge applaud from across the country and received representation from almost every state of India.

Yoga Guru and founder of Mokshayatan International Yogashram Bharat Bhushan mentioned the importance of Bhagwad Gita and Karma Yoga. He said that even Gyan Yoga can’t be attained without Karma Yoga. Bhagwad Gita is the key to inner power and wisdom, he added.

Dr. Dheeraj P. Joshi from Birmingham, UK, and Prof. Ramesh Kumar Pandey, V.C. Shri LBS National Sanskrit University, Delhi also participated in the inaugural session.

Shankaranand, an eminent social thinker from Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, addressed the participants underlining the importance of yoga in education. He mentioned the importance of ‘Tapa’ (Penance) and ‘Complete Devotion’ to the Almighty only lead to the path of salvation.

Prof. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma, V.C. Gautam Buddha University, U.P. also expressed his views over the history and philosophy of Yoga.

The presence of Sukhdev Master Yogi from Singapore, Dr. Dheeraj P. Joshi from Birmingham, and Dr. Kohrs Fernando and Mrs. Teresa Gonzalez Khors from Mexico were most notable and encouraging. Their presence reflected the global presence of ancient Bharatiya Gyan Parampara (Indian Knowledge Tradition) and indicated its global acceptance.

yoga_1  H x W: Dr. H R Nagendra, Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhan Samsthana, (S-VYASA), Bengaluru addressed the valedictory session. He said that yoga is the science of Holistic Living.

Indresh Kumar, renowned social thinker, and patron of various social organizations said that yoga transcends the barriers of caste and religion and therefore it should be practiced by everyone for his own benefit as well as for social, physical, and emotional uplift of the society. He said that yoga is the journey from ‘I’ (individualism) to ‘We’ (universalism) and it unites the people irrespective of their diversities and differences.

Indresh Kumar further said that yoga can be an effective medicine and way to rid the world and humanity of clashes, tensions, and strife of various cultures and nations and usher in an era of universal peace and progress.

Dr. Devavrat Arya, Governor of Gujarat in his valedictory address said that yoga has the capacity to revive our internal strength. It inculcates contentment-peace-non-violence-purity and oneness in those who practice it. He said at the initiative of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the UN adopted a consensus resolution declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga is observed every year with enthusiasm all over the world. It proves that the whole world not only accepted the usefulness of Yoga but also acknowledged the greatest contribution of our Great Rishis in the service of humanity.

Expressing his view in the session Dr. Jaideep Arya, Chairman Yoga Parishad Haryana said that by following Ashtang Yoga the journey of the spiritual world can be successfully attained. It controls our senses and teaches us to lead a balanced life. It should be practiced by everyone in the interest of oneself and humanity.

Director of CPDHE Prof. Geeta Singh said that it was a time to challenge the coronavirus pandemic. She further added that “Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam” and “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah” is the core of our Rishi Gyan Parampara and through this program, CPDHE has just tried to add few torchbearers to carry the torch of peace, oneness, and happiness to every corner of the country and world.
