PM Modi, Afghan President Ghani exchanges views on evolving security situation

New Delhi, Aug 4: During a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged views with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Ashraf Ghani on the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual bilateral interest, against the backdrop of a spike in terrorist violence in Afghanistan.

President Ghani also thanked PM Modi for the timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet Afghan requirements. Last month Indian sends 55 containers carrying the sixth consignment of 8200 MT of wheat to Afghanistan. As of now, India has supplied 75, 000 Mt wheat to Afganistan. Indian is one of the most wheat suppliers in the country. Apart from wheat, India has also supplied 500K tablets of hydroxychloroquine, 100K tablets of paracetamol, to Afghan.
 
 
Moreover, PM Narendra Modi also reiterated India's commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Afghanistan. During the telephonic conversation, both leaders exchanged greetings on the joyous festival of Eid – ul – Adha.
 
This telephonic conversation comes after, Indian Ambassador to Kabul, Vinay Kumar met Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afgan, Mohammad Haneef Atmar. Both reflected on the importance of the ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban during Eid and saw it as a positive step towards establishing lasting peace in the country
 
 
Ambassador Kumar reiterated the Indian government’s continued commitment to Afghanistan. Minister Atmar expressed appreciation for Indian support and reiterated the commitment of the Afghan government towards further expanding and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
