Prakash Javadekar launches DD Assam channel

New Delhi, Aug 4: Sending the message of unity in diversity, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday launched DD Assam 24x7 channel through video conferencing from New Delhi saying, "the channel is a gift to people of Assam and this channel will cater to all sections of the population of Assam and will be immensely popular.”

During this launch, the Minister said that it is important that all States have their own Doordarshan channel. The channels of other States are available on DD Free Dish. Javdekar said it was necessary for the State to have a new channel. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that Northeast India will become an engine for growth for the country. The Northeast region is full of resources and diversities.
 
 
The Minister also asserted D With DD Free Dish set-top box, you will be able to watch 104 channels including those of Meghalaya, Mizoram and other channels lifetime free, the monthly charges will become a thing of the past, he added. He further added that Assam and North Eastern Region is so full of natural diversity and cultural richness and yet it carries the thread of unity. It is hence necessary that each state has its own Doordarshan channel.
 
The Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, calls it a significant day for the people of Assam, the Minister said, “this channel will boost the growth of Assam in all spheres of human activities, while at the same time help percolate the initiatives and programs of the Government to grassroots.” Sonowal also acknowledged the commitment of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, saying “PM Modi, from day one, has been sincerely trying to focus on the true potential and possibilities of north-east.
 
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare and Director General of Doordarshan, Mayank Agrawal also expressed their views on this occasion.
