New Delhi, January 11: In a major development, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa met BJP leaders including, Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda in Delhi. This meeting has come amid the impasse on the long-overdue cabinet expansion. During the meeting, they discussed various issues pertaining to the party.

"We have finalised seven names. January 14 is the festival. Most probably the oath-taking ceremony will take place on January 13 afternoon. I will confirm the names and portfolios later.

We will wait for instructions on cabinet expansion from the party leadership, which has assured its support to our government," asserted Yediyurappa. Yediyurappa further said he was happy with the discussions, as they were positive, fruitful, and satisfactory.

This is the third time that Karnataka is going for cabinet expansion to fill 7 vacancies in the 34-member ministry. The cabinet expansion has been pending since the time BJP formed the government in the state in July 2019 after toppling the coalition government. Earlier, the Karnataka cabinet was expanded on February 6, 2020, when 10 legislators, who defected from Congress and JD(S) were inducted after they won in the December 5, 2019 by-elections.

This reshuffle will be a tightrope walk for the Chief minister as there are some rumors over the bid to replace Yediyurappa. Besides this, during the meeting, he also briefed them about the result of the Gram panchayat election held in the state last month.

"I explained to them in detail the Gram Panchayat result. We also discussed the cabinet expansion in detail. The names will be cleared as early as possible. 100 percent this is the last meeting. They are going to clear the names as early as possible," said the Karnataka CM.
