Great tribute to Netaji! Railways rename Howrah-Kalka Mail as Netaji Express

New Delhi, January 20: Remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service towars the nation, ahead of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's 125th birth anniversary, the Indian Railways on Tuesday renamed the Howrah-Kalka Mail as the ‘Netaji Express’.

Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal announced this news via social media. Taking to Twitter, he said that Netaji’s prakram had put India on the express route of freedom and development. I am thrilled to celebrate his anniversary with the introduction of “Netaji Express.”
 
Interestingly, it is said that Bose took this train from Gomoh in Bihar after he escaped from his house in Kolkata in 1941.
 
Release from Ministry of Railways read, "Regarding the naming of 12311/12312 Howrah Kalka Mail as "Netaji Express", Ministry of railways approves naming of train no 12311/12312 Howrah Kalka mail as "Netaji Express". Ensure compliance and action accordingly. Matter most urgent."
 
Kalka Mail at present is one of the oldest trains running in the country, It began operation between Calcutta and Delhi in 1866 and it was run by the East Indian Railway Company.
 
The Narendra Modi led government decided to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as 'Parakram Diwas' in a befitting manner at the national and international level, beginning from January 23.
 
A committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been constituted for deciding the programs, and to supervise and guide the commemoration throughout the year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the inaugural event of the celebrations being held at Kolkata.
 
National Film Development Corporation under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will organize a short-film competition on - How to fulfill Netaji’s dreams for India. Doordarshan and All India Radio will host panel discussions, produce documentaries and other programs on the life and times of Netaji.
