Democrats take charge of White House! Biden & Harris sworn in as 46th President, VP

Washington DC, January 21: With a new dawn rising in Unites States, the country begins its new chapter as democrats took over the leadership of the country. Scripting the history in golden words, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr and Kamala Devi Harris took the oath as the 46th President of the US and as the first woman vice president of the US.

Raising his right hand and placing his left on a Bible, Biden was sworn in by Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts at the U.S. Capitol in front of a sparse bipartisan crowd. With that, he becomes the oldest US president in history. Biden was sworn in using a Bible that has been in his family since 1893 and was used during his swearing-in as vice president in 2009 and 2013. The 5-inch thick Bible, which could be seen on a table next to Biden’s chair on the dais, has a Celtic cross on its cover and was also used each time he was sworn- n as a U.S. senator.
 
 
 
 
In his delivers inaugural address, Biden said "This is democracy's day, a day of history and hope, of renewal and resolve." He pledged to defend the nation and fight the multiple crises facing Americans. He said, “Together, we shall write an American story of hope, not fear, of unity not division, of light, not darkness." He also assured Americans that he would provide a positive example to the world under his leadership as president.
 
 
 
Highlighting a message of unity, he promised to be a president "for all Americans" - including those who voted against him. "My whole soul is in putting America back together again," he added. He declared 'democracy has prevailed', during a ceremony at the US Capitol. He said, "Today we celebrate the triumph, not of a candidate, but a cause — the cause of democracy. The will of the people has been heard, and the will of the people has been heeded. We've learned again that democracy is precious. Democracy is fragile.

It was the history-making moment is a milestone for Americans as stepping into history as the highest-ranking woman in American history former California senator was sworn in by Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina on the supreme court.
 
 
 
 With that Harris thus become the first Black American and first person of South Asian descent to hold the nation’s second-highest office. Harris chose to be sworn in using two Bibles, one from the late Thurgood Marshall, the first black supreme court justice, and one from Regina Shelton, a close family friend. Harris used Shelton's Bible when she took the oath of office as California attorney general and later as a U.S. senator.

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and their spouses participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. After visiting Arlington National Cemetery, President Biden and the First Lady rode in a motorcade back into Washington, D.C. for an escort to the White House.
 
Former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton attended the ceremony, along with Vice President Mike Pence. However, Ex-President Donald Trump left the White House in the morning rather than attend any of the day's events
 
 
 
Following Biden’s swearing-in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him. “My warmest congratulations to Joe Biden on his assumption of office as President of the United States of America,” he tweeted. “I look forward to working with him to strengthen India-US strategic partnership. My best wishes for a successful term in leading the USA as we stand united and resilient in addressing common challenges and advancing global peace and security.”
 
 
Modi also spoke about the ties between the two countries, which he was “based on shared values”. “We have a substantial and multifaceted bilateral agenda, growing economic engagement and vibrant people to people linkages,” he tweeted. “Committed to working with President Joe Biden to take the India-US partnership to even greater heights.”
