Washington DC, January 21: Without even wasting a minute after taking the oath as president, US President Joe Biden kicked off his term by inking series of executive orders erasing core aspects of Donald Trump’s legacy. With just one stroke of his pen, Biden signed 17 executive orders including the decision to restart its membership in the World Health Orgnisation WHO, which Trump left after accusing the global organisation’s leadership of being too cozy with China.

Immigration

Revoking the Trump administration, Biden ends Trump travel ban on predominantly Muslim and African countries. The measure directs the State Department to resume visa processing for those countries and develop a plan to address people affected, such as those who were denied entry to the US. The president also directed the State Department to develop ways to address the harm caused to those prevented from coming to the United States because of the ban.

Mexico border wall and Climate

Biden further ordered a halt to the construction of Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Apart from it President also signed an order having the United States rejoin the Paris Climate Accord, reversing former President Donald Trump’s withdrawal. “We’re gonna rejoin the Paris Climate Accord as of today,” Biden said from behind his desk, a stack of bound executive orders beside him.

Keystone XL pipeline

Moreover, Biden also scrapped the Keystone XL pipeline connecting the Alberta oil sands to coastal refineries in Texas -- a move that threatens to strain ties with Canada.

Covid

He also states its much-awaited 100-day mask challenge to the country, pairing it with an executive order to mandate mask-wearing in all federal buildings and during interstate travel. He re-established the national security team responsible for global health, security, and bio-defense.

Race and inequality

Biden inked his name on three executive orders to address racial disparities and inequities within the US government and its operations. Biden has ordered federal agencies to prioritise racial equity and review policies that reinforce systemic racism. He revoked a Trump order that sought to exclude non-citizens from the census and will order federal employees to take an ethics pledge that commits them to uphold the independence of the Justice Department.
