New Delhi, Jan 22: The Education Board of the state of Kerala that is being ruled under Communist elements, is circulating false history and have claimed that Abu Al-Qasim Al-Zahwari is the 'Father of Surgery', instead of what has been rightly taught since a considerable period that 'Sage Sushruta is the Father of Surgery'. The controversial content has been published on page 34 of the class 9 social science textbook, under the title “Great people and their contributions”.

The Kerala govt has sparked another controversy from the chapters of Indian history crediting to the leftist inclination in their approach. Sage Sushruta, who is recognized as the father of surgery all around the world, is derecognized by an Indian state like Kerala merely for the implementation of a particular ideology is a pitiful reality.

Al-Zahrawi is considered to be the greatest surgeon of the Middle Ages and has been termed to be the 'father of surgery' for a specific time period. Al-Zahrawi's principal work is the Kitab al-Tasrif, a thirty-volume encyclopedia of medical practices. The surgery chapter of this work was later translated into Latin, attaining popularity and becoming the standard textbook in Europe for the next five hundred years.

Sage Sushruta on the other hand has described, studied and practiced the science of surgery much earlier than Al-Zahrawi. Sushruta was a physician in ancient India and is dated back to the time period of 7th or 6th century BCE. He is not only known as the 'Father of Surgery' but also the 'Father of Indian Medicine' for inventing and developing surgical procedures. His work on the subject of surgery, the Sushruta Samhita is considered to be the oldest text in the world on plastic surgery and is highly regarded as one of the Greatest Trilogy of Ayurvedic Medicine.
Despite of having a legend born in India, the Kerala State Education Board has considered giving credits to a physician dating back to middle ages and has studied Surgery much later than Sushruta. Imbibing personal agendas in the future generations through the education system is a serious act and demands legislative attention.
