Budget 2020: Multiplex owners meet FM Nirmala Sitharaman to seek relief

New Delhi, January 23: Ahead of the Union Budget 2021-22 Film industry veterans including Actor and MP Sunny Deol, met FiMi Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday. Apart from Sunny Deol, the delegation also includes Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director of PVR Ltd, and Kamal Gianchandani, chief executive officer, PVR Pictures. The delegation explained the problems faced by the sector.

During the discussion, the delegation proposed measures to bring relief to the pandemic-crippled multiplex and film industry as the film industry was one of the worst-hit by the COVID pandemic. The industry has faced major losses owing to a prolonged shutdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
 
 
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter said that the FM Sitharaman has assured the delegation of considering relief measures requested by the industry.
 
Apart from this, the delegation explained the problems being faced by the industry such as ongoing restrictions on seating capacity inside the cinema hall. Among their major demands was the relaxation of restrictions, waiving of tax, and access to affordable finance,” a senior official aware of the meeting said.
 
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to table the Union Budget 2021 on February 1 for 2021-22 fiscal.
