It should be noted that Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee played Subhas Chandra Bose in a 2019 Bengali film Gumnaami, directed by Srijit Mukherjee, which deals with the freedom fighter’s death mystery.

Barkha Dutt, former NDTV ‘journalist’, said, “I wish this were a headline from the Onion. I had to look twice to make sure it had happened. How utterly embarrassing”. She later deleted her tweet after another journalist gave her reality check that the portrait by artist Paresh Maity was based on an original photograph of Netaji sourced from his grand niece.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Moitra also tries to mock the president. Pointed out that the portrait that was unveiled was that of actor Prosenjit and not Netaji while she took a dig at President Kovid for donating Rs 5 lakhs for the construction of Ram Mandir.

“God Save India (because this government certainly can’t)” in reaction to the incident. “After donating Rs 5 lakhs to the Ram temple the President honors Netaji by unveiling a portrait of Prasenjit, (sic) the actor who played him in the biopic,” said her tweet. However, realising the mistake she later deletes her tweet.

Other liberals, Sagarika Ghose also went to the extent of demanding that the portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose be removed claiming that it was Prosenjit Chatterjee. Meanwhile, she also later delete the tweet after getting trolled for that.

Amid the outrage journalist, Nistula Hebbar comes ahead to give them a simple reality check. She pointed out that the portrait unveiled by the President has been painted by painter Paresh Maity, based on the original photograph of Netaji which was sourced from his Grand Niece Jayanti Bose Rakshit.

Apart from her Chandra Kumar Bose, the grand-nephew of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had shared a photograph of the great leader. He tweeted, "This is the original photograph of #NetajiSubhasChandraBose, based on which renowned artist Shri #PareshMaity has drawn the portrait which was unveiled at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 23 Jan 2021, by Hon’ble President of India-Shri Ram Nath Jivind ji. "

Ther Centre also refuted claims that the portrait unveiled by President Ram Nath Kovind is not of Subhas Chandra Bose, but actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Terming the debate as "fake", the central government clarified that the portrait of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Rashtrapati Bhavan is based on an original photo of the freedom fighter. "Shows how the entire debate is fake and based on poor research," the government said. But it was such hilarious to see how these left libraries tried to troll the president without even fact-checking once.
