New Delhi, January 27: After the South Indian movie Jallikattu, another movie 'Soorarai Pottru' starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurli joined the race to the Oscar. It has entered the race under the General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, and several other categories.

Rajshekhar Pandian, co-producer of the movie and the CEO of 2D Entertainment shared this news on social media. He wrote on Twitter, “Happy Republic Day! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS under General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score & other categories! The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room today”.
 
 
 
 
The movie is made available at the Academy Screening Room from Tuesday to be viewed by the academy members for votes and nomination.
 
The film is based on Air Deccan founder Capt G R Gopinath's life and it follows the story of a common man with a big dream of launching a low-cost airline in the 1990s. Originally, the film was planned for a summer 2020 release. However, it did not happen owing to the ongoing COVID 19 crises. It had a direct release on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime.
 
Besides, the Malayalam film, Jallikattu, also has been selected as the official Indian entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards, 2021. The Academy is focusing on ensuring that the event is held in a traditional manner.'
