Bangladesh invests Tk 2,276 crore to develop Disaster Management Project

Dhaka, Jan 5: In order to ramp up disaster management work in the country, the govt of Bangladesh has prepared an ambitious plan covering the entire country. The Tk 2276 crore plan has been prepared to procure modern equipment for quick response during emergencies arising out of natural disasters. The project is expected to be completed by October 2023.

Bangladesh's Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief seeks to cover the entire area of Bangladesh with this project including the priority areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions. The Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohsin has stressed upon the disaster prone nature of Bangladesh and said that the implementation of this project would greatly help Bangladesh in conducting emergency search and rescue operations at times of natural disasters.
 
He added that the project will enhance the institutional capacity of the agencies to respond quickly during natural disasters. The project also requires establishment of an emergency communication system such as 4G cellular services anywhere during the time of natural disasters by using the satellite links.
 
 
Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country of an area of about 1,47,570 sq. km. with population nearing 140 million. The country is well within the tropics and is the largest delta in the world formed by the mighty rivers namely the Ganges, the Brahamaputra and the Meghna. Bangladesh has special geographical feature.
  
It has the Himalayan range to the north. The Bay of Bengal to the south with its funneling towards Meghna estuary and the vast stretch of Indian land to the west. The combined affects of the role played by this special geographical features have significant bearing on weather system of Bangladesh. The weather system are not always favourable.
 
Due to this weather system, Bangladesh becomes the worst victim of natural calamities causing colossal loss of lives and properties.
