Proud moment for India! Indian Flag Installed At UNSC as India begins 2-year tenure

New York, January 05: In proud moment for India and Indians UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti hoisted Indian Tricolor flag at United National Security Council UNSC stakeout in New York City on Monday. With that, the country formally started its tenure as a non-permanent member of UNSC for a period of two years.
 
While speaking at a news briefing, TS Tirumurti, called the flag installation ceremony a "proud moment" for the nation.

Tirumurti said, "As India assumes the membership of the Security Council for the eight-time, it is an honor for me as the Permanent Representative of India to take part in today’s flag installation ceremony. This is a proud moment for my country and my delegation. I thank Prime Minister for the trust he has reposed in me to represent my country in the Security Council."
 
"India comes into the Security Council as the largest democracy representing 1/6th of humanity" and with a "strong commitment" to "reformed multilateralism, rule of law, a fair and equitable international system and to peace, security and development," he highlighted.
 
 
On the very first day, India raised the terrorism issue at UNSC. While speaking Trimurti said, "We will not shy away from raising our voice against the common enemies of humanity like terrorism."
 
Tirumurti framed India's role as one that brings "human-centric and inclusive solutions to matters of international peace and security. India will be a voice for the developing world" he added, echoing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks at last year's UNGA.
 
 
 
India looks forward to the UN's collective pursuit for an ideal where the World is One Family - “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, he added.
 
After the ceremony, the United States welcomed India to the United Nations Security Council saying the new year brings new opportunities to strengthen relationships with old friends and partners. We welcome India to the UNSC Security Council adding that it looks forward to working over the shared interests towards a peaceful, secure India-Pacific.
 
 
Apart from India, Flags of four other new incoming non-permanent members Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, and Norway were also installed at the stakeout during a special ceremony today.
