On January 6, amid snowfall, COB Bunawadar received a call for help from a distraught Ghulam Mh Mir, a resident of Pethawadar area of Handwara in North Kashmir regarding a heavily pregnant woman. He said that his daughter was due to deliver and the family was unable to take her to the hospital because of heavy snowfall.

The Army team rescued a woman with pregnancy-related complications by carrying her for several kilometres through the knee-deep snow. They carried her on a stretcher to nearby Primary Health Centre. At the same time, a Nursing Assistant was sent to the PHC to assist a local nurse (male) for checking her blood pressure levels and stabilizing the pregnant lady.

Since all roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall, the woman was given primary aid at this centre. Again, the Army men took the pregnant woman on a stretcher to the location where transportation was available i.e. 3 km from the PHC.

Later that evening, the baby was delivered healthy and the mother and the baby reached home safely. Troops timely action and efforts made the delivery safe and successful. The family expressed their sincere gratitude for all the assistance the Army provided. These kind gestures would go a long way in strengthening the bond between the Army and Awaam.
