Punjab CM dedicates January for 'Girl Child', launches several schemes

Chandigarh, Jan 8: Punjab Chief Minister Amrendra Singh announced a slew of welfare schemes, on Jan 7. He launched a scheme to provide free sanitary pads to high school and college girls. He also launched the Basera programme to give property rights to slum dwellers.

The CM has dedicated the month of January to the girl child and has arranged for the distribution of 2,500 sports kits among youngsters. Under the scheme for the girl child, a series of events will be held every day across various districts of the state, starting from the district of Mohali, marking the occasion of Lohri.
 
The Punjab CM has launched a programme to give property rights to slum dwellers called the Basera Programme. Through the Basera programme, 2,816 dwellers in 10 slums of Patiala, Bhatinda, Fazilka and Moga districts will get proprietary rights in the first phase. The CM asked the Local Government Department to ensure basic civic amenities, including potable drinking water, street lights and roads in slums for a comfortable life.
 
 
Besides an 'e-Daakhil' portal for consumer complaints, CM Capt. Amarinder Singh has also rolled out over Rs 75-crore smart metering project and said the CM said the scheme will help reduce human error in manual reading through automatic uploading of data.
 
For the girl child the CM launched the 'Dheeiyan Di Lohri' scheme and as a gesture of amalgamation of the customs of Lohri and benefit of the girl child, the CM blessed five girls along with their mothers with a shagun of Rs 5,100 and baby kits for each.
 
 
The scheme was launched for the distribution of 2,500 sports kits among the youth through community participation especially of the Ludhiana industry. The CM said it will help promote health awareness and nurture sports culture.
