The official statement of Odisha govt stated, "There is no bird flu detected in Odisha. Regular surveillance measures are being taken up through the collection of tracheal swabs, coloacal swabs, environmental samples, and serum samples of birds by field veterinarians. Animal Disease Research Institute (ADRI) at the state level, Clinical investigation Laboratory (CIL) and State Veterinary Laboratory at the regional level and District Diagnostic Laboratory at the district level have been geared up with full strength for collection and testing of the samples."

At the same time Odisha has recently had a large flock of migratory birds being arrived at Jagatsinghpur district's Paradeep city. Eight teams from the Rajnagar Forest Department have been deployed while two teams of four have arrived at Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) in order to get the count of the birds. The recent wave of the Avian flu broke mainly from Rajasthan and then the cases of bird flu were observed in other states. In case of Himachal Pradesh's Bird flu cases one of the major reasons suspected to cause the flu were the migratory birds that had flown all the way from Siberia and Mongolia to the Pong Dam Sanctuary. Therefore, the arrival of migratory birds in the state of Odisha is a crucial event at this point of time, in the wake of the bird flu, although as per the state govt no cases have been discovered yet of the flu.

The Odisha govt has said that the collected samples are being sent Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL) at Kolkata for testing and so far all samples have been tested negative for Avian Influenza. The govt has said, "Until now around 12,158 have been tested during the current bird migratory season." The state govt has also asked the people to report any cases of unusual deaths of birds that they come across, to the nearest veterinary or state control room.
