Maharashtra home minister Dilip Walse Patil said the state government or the investigative agencies are not aware of the whereabouts of former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh, who is accused in an alleged money laundering case.

When he was asked about the rumors that the former top cop has fled to Russia, Patil said a lookout circular has been issued after Singh failed to report before the investigative authorities despite multiple notices served to him, and the government is looking for him.

“Along with the Union home ministry, we're also searching for his (Param Bir Singh) whereabouts. I've heard something like that but as a government officer, he can't go abroad without government clearance,” the Maharashtra home minister.

“We've issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) and if he went away, then it is not good,” Patil added. Parambir Singh is wanted in several ongoing cases being probed by investigating agencies, including the Antilia Bomb scare, Mansukh Hiren murder case, and the Mumbai police extortion case.

Earlier this month, a probe panel led by retired Bombay high court judge Justice Kailas Uttamchand Chandiwal issued a bailable warrant against Param Bir Singh after he failed to appear before the investigative authorities.

The former Mumbai Police commissioner was transferred to the Home Guards department after allegations surfaced in February this year. He took charge of his office on March 22 and is said to have attended office till May 4.

Singh sought leave on health grounds and reportedly traveled to Chandigarh, his hometown. Citing health issues he had sought several extensions of his leave by sending communications to the state govt. Singh claimed he underwent surgery and was bedridden.

Later, around the second week of August, he sought another extension saying he was still unwell and this time sought leave till August 29. However, since then, there has been no communication from him at all. NIA officials, too, summoned Singh in the second week of August but they could not find him anywhere.
