Major lapse in CM Yogi's security: Man enters auditorium with revolver, 4 cops suspended

Following the incident, the UP administration has suspended as many as four police personnel.

Lucknow, October 22: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh election 2022, a major security lapse has come to the fore at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's event in Basti district, a man with a licensed revolver entered the auditorium minutes ahead of the former’s arrival.

Adityanath was attending a programme at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium in Basti district earlier this week. Personnel from local police stations, as well as those from other districts, were deployed on security duty. About 45 minutes before the chief minister's arrival, the accused came in with his revolver. Reportedly, as soon as he entered the auditorium, he was escorted out by the policemen
 
Following the incident, the UP administration has suspended as many as four police personnel. Moreover, 3 policemen have been sent to the department.
 
 
According to Basti SP Ashish Srivastava, 45 minutes before CM arrived at the event, the Circle Officer identified a man with a licensed revolver present there. "There was a VIP event of CM in Basti district. 45 minutes before his arrival, a man came to the auditorium with his licensed revolver. Circle Officer present on duty there saw him. The man was taken out of the auditorium. His identity was ascertained," the SP
 
He added, "In initial probe 7 Policemen, including 4 posted in Basti district, were found to be negligent. 2 of them were posted in Siddharthnagar & 1 in Sant Kabir Nagar”. 
 
Gearing up for elections, Adityanath is currently participating in government programmes on 4-5 days in a week since October 1. He is also set to tour all districts to get the local pulse ahead of the elections.
