Greyhound forces gun down 3 Maoists in encounter near Telangana-Chhattisgarh border

Mulugu Superintendent of Police G Sangram Singh Patil said that the three ultras were neutralised in the operation.

Mulugu, October 26: In the major development, Greyhound forces of Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police carried out interstate operations and gunned down at least three Maoists during the encounter in the forests of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday. The area is close to the Telangana-Chhattisgarh interstate border.

The encounter took place when the district police, along with Greyhounds (elite anti-Maoist special police force), were combing in Tekulagudem forest areas abutting Chhattisgarh border areas under Peruru police station limits of the Vajedu block, the police said.
 
Mulugu Superintendent of Police G Sangram Singh Patil said that the three ultras were neutralised in the operation. The police also recovered one SLR LMG, one AK-47 with bayonet, one SLR, a double-barrel gun, magazines of the weapons SLR LMG- 03, AK-47- 03+ 28 Rounds, SLR -02 + 24 Rounds, and explosive material from the spot.
 
 
 
He said, “Today morning, during a joint operation by Telangana and Chhattisgarh police forces, there was an exchange of fire at a place which is just across the Telangana border. Three Maoists have been killed. We recovered a light machine gun, one SLR and an AK-47, some explosives, and so on. The combing is still going on.’’
 
 
These Maoists were members of the Central Area Committee, added the officer. The deceased Maoists are yet to be officially identified, and their bodies have been shifted to a government hospital in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, the SP added.
