Shimla, October 27: A massive fire broke out in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh burning at least 15 wooden houses in Malana. The fire started at around 1.30 a.m. and the highly inflammable wooden houses and stored dry grass caught the fire, in which more than a dozen houses were gutted affecting 150 people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief for the families affected due to the fire tragedy in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
The raging fire doused by the local firefighters is now under control but it has caused heavy loss to the property. No casualties have been reported in this incident. However, 12 to 16 wood houses have been completely burnt-out. Relief materials have been dispatched to the affected village. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed deep grief over the incident and directed the administration to provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected families.
In a tweet, PM Modi said that the state government and local administration are engaged in relief and rescue work with full readiness.
Malana, one of the largest villages in the Kullu district with a population of about 2,350 where the banned cannabis is the source of prime livelihood, is located amid high mountains, some 350 km from the state capital here. In 2008, almost half of Malana, known for Malana Cream, the most sought-after form of hashish across the globe, was wiped out in the massive fire.
