LeT terrorist killed in Srinagar encounter

The encounter broke out after two terrorists opened fire on the police personnel.

Srinagar, October 09: Tightening the noose around the terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, after militants killed 7 civilians including Kashmiri Pandit in 10 days, Security forces killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in Natipora area of Srinagar.

According to the Jammu Kashmir Police, the terrorist was killed during the cross-firing, while another managed to escape. The encounter broke out after two terrorists opened fire on the police personnel.
 
Contingents of police and CRPF men rushed to the area and launched cordon and search operation to track down the militant who escaped According to an identity card recovered from the slain terrorist, he was identified as Aqib Bashir Kumar, a resident of Trenz in Shopian. He was affiliated with banned Pakistani terror outfit LeT.
 
 
"Terrorists fired upon Srinagar Police team. Police also retaliated. During ensuing chance #encounter, one terrorist got neutralised but one escaped," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet. One AK-47, three magazines, and some live bullets have been recovered from the slain terrorist. Meanwhile, a search operation to nab another terrorist is underway.
 
Meanwhile, another encounter started in the Methan area of Srinagar, where the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are carrying out a joint operation.
 
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to hold discussions with Jammu and Kashmir Lt-Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday on the security situation in the Union Territory in the wake of the targeted killings, especially those of Hindus and Sikhs.
